We are a manufacturer of pre-cut fabrics, largely for the quilting, sewing and crafting categories. We have a whole new modular set at Walmart, and boy are we thrilled! In most stores we have a 4 ft. section, even in stores that don’t currently have a full fabric selection, you can find our pre-cuts. Some stores are carrying our 8 ft section, and just a few stores have 12 ft of pre-cut fabrics.  Our 12 ft. fabric selection is mainly in stores that don’t have fabric at all.

Aside from getting fat quarter singles, and half yard cuts, we have what we call a ‘fashion collection’ selection. The fashion collections are eight designs that are then used in jellie strips, charm squares, super stax (all 8 designs in fat quarters), and half yard cuts.

We have 8 collections in total. Here they are proudly revealed for you here, and at your local Walmart stores (US only).

The first is the Exotic Batik Collection.

Wow – is it March already?

Without a strong winter, it seems like our quilting season got shortened. There have been just too many nice days where the garden is calling, instead of the sewing machine. But that is here in South Carolina. Is it still winter where you are?

March is a time when we can start thinking about renewal, and planting seeds for something new to arrive. The underlying theme here is to “try something new”. A great way to get some update and inspiration is to find a quilt guild, or a quilter’s retreat weekend, or maybe just an afternoon with a quilter friend to share techniques, and learn something new.

If you hand quilt, maybe you could try machine-quilting. If you are stuck using the same old blocks because you know them and you want to get that project done..try a different border treatment to get out of a rut. Maybe try and open up your freedom to make a scrappy quilt. Or if your already scrappy…try finding new discipline in a small width log cabin piece. Maybe it’s time to venture out of the box and look at art quilts for the afternoon.  A trip to Studio Art Quilt Associates Gallery will certainly boost any creative spirit.

Hearts to You!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Who do you love today? Better yet, who loves you? One of the ways I show love to my family is to make things for them. Even the simple act of making dinner is my way of saying I care.

The best way, as creative people, is to provide a gift we have made with our hands and our hearts. It doesn’t have to be a masterpiece, or even a statement piece. It can just be a small sentiment of who we are, and how we cherish the ones we love by a hand made gift.

The Groundhog’s Shadow

The famous groundhog: Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today. That means 6 more weeks of quilting season!

In many quilt guilds there is a deadline approaching for getting quilts finished for entry into local and regional quilt shows. Now is the time to get the tops done, borders finished, binding done, and off to your favorite machine quilter, or start on that task yourself.

Hand quilting is one of the fine arts that can’t be rushed. It is in this labor though that many quilter’s find their joy. The patience required soothes the soul and brings life to the patches of color already sewn. It is an art in itself!

Which do you prefer? Hand quilting or machine quilting?

Quilting Season!

With Christmas as a distant memory, and all the cleaning and organization of our quilting spaces cleared and ready, it is officially quilting season! The weather is even cooperating with short days, rain and snow in much of the country, and low temperature, it is a good time to stay indoors next to the sewing machine.

So what are you working on? How are you parsing your time to make sure you actually take breaks and time for fellowship with people around you?

One of our product developers, and fellow blogger, Sophie went to a quilt retreat this past weekend, and experienced the joy of dedicated quilting time with other quilters.  The experience combined all of her favorite things, and was so motivating that she nearly completed a large batik quilt. Yeah Sophie!

What are you working on? You are welcome to post your in-progress projects on our Facebook page for fun! Click this link and LIKE us! www.facebook.com/fabriceditions

Don’t you just love how changing the calendar over to another year can symbolically make all things bright and shiny again? Here is the chance to start a new project, finish the old ones, or learn an entirely new technique.

It’s always easy to start a new project. Just look around at our free projects and pick one that is right for you. We have uploaded many new projects in the last few months. Some of them even include instructions in French for our quilting friends in Canada.

The trick is to start! Put away some time, and make yourself a space that truly is just for the creative you. Set fear of failure on the shelf and allow the creative self to emerge. No judgement, no worries, just create.

Trash the Stash?

Got your attention? Of course we would NEVER trash our treasures, but sometimes it feels like the stash of great fabric and unfinished projects is turning into a sculpture of its own.

It’s time to own it, and store it, so we can gain control of what beauty lies in the heap.

STEP ONE: MAKE A PLAN

We all have ideas about what we might do one day. So maybe it’s time to put that list into writing. So, step one is make a list of the projects you want to create this year. Maybe this is your year to try a Quilt Block of the Month? Want to focus on a particular color? How about learning a new technique? Have a new baby coming into the family this year? Wedding?  Events and personal experiences that you want to gain can all help you focus on what you want to accomplish this year.

STEP TWO: SORT IT OUT

The next step in organizing your stash is to lovingly revisit it and make a decision about each piece: is it time to:  keep it (and use it), give it away, or trash it?  Keeping it is, of course, our first inclination. We want it all. We once loved it.  But where and when can we use it?  Start with your list from Step One, and see what it is you want to make this year. Start sorting by pulling together the pieces and parts of each project. Make yourself a bin, or bag for each project, and shop in your own stash. Make yourself a quick note about your vision for this project, draw a quick sketch, and do a quick list for what else you might need.

STEP THREE: DO IT!

Put the first project in front of you. The one you feel most passionate about. Find a place to set that project up, and spend some time thinking through the next steps. Then, simply, just start. It doesn’t matter where you start. A sketch, a magazine picture, or you could make a little card of swatches to carry with you. That way it’s easy to find the right thread, or backing fabric, or even other fabric to use and compliment your current project. After you make your intention clear, the pieces start to fall together.

Most of all, have a great time re-visiting your stash. It’s where your next creation will come from!

Sophie’s New Year’s resolutions:

Be creative every day. Doodle. Cut fabric, and sew something.
Make time to quilt every week.  Finish a quilt.  Give away a quilt top I’ll never finish.
Shop for a fat quarter – to match the sky, the snow, the color of winter.

We wish all of our quilting & crafting friends and their families a wonderful, happy and healthy 2012!

It is already time to start planning this year’s Christmas gifts to make. The best way to start is by pulling pieces of art that inspires you. Dedicate a small plastic container, or folder and begin pulling together pictures from magazines, wrapping paper, greeting cards and whatever appeals to you as your personal stash of resources.

There are some great gift projects in the Free Projects section of our site. Search for the projects by Sew or No Sew, or view them all as they scroll across the bottom of the screen. Simply choose one, click on it and you can print the .pdf with complete instructions right from our site.

Finding your muse

How does creativity come through you? Does is roll like thunder and you feel it in your bones or the ground beneath you, or does it show up on Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. on schedule? Where do you find the muse that strikes your spirit towards creativity? Some might say that the whole idea behind ‘retail therapy’ is in, and of itself, a gateway towards inspiration. I, personally, can be inspired just by walking into the Apple store, because I love and engage with that brand.

Here in the fabric world, looking at fabric designs and imagining what a piece of fabric may end up being when it is in a project or in a quilt is part of our creative process. And the muse must show up for our team, Monday through Friday. While our passion is in pursuing creativity, it also has to be ‘on-demand’, like cable running through the wires at your house. Sometimes that is a little tough. Do you feel that creative urge spontaneously, or what do you do to create inspiration for yourself? Our hope is that the Fabric Editions website is a space to stop and find inspiration among our free projects that you can download and try at home.

Our team, product developers, textile designers, graphic artists, merchandisers, and even me, are all here with the creative thunder in our midst. There is a long list of new projects, new products and new fabric designs that we are working on to keep what is in your local retailer new and fresh. We are working for you, that you can be inspired by what we create, and in turn, bring your own creations to life.

We have been working very hard on getting new projects up on the site for our guests (like you) to visit and get your own inspiration muse stimulated. They are almost ready! I will put a blast announcement on our Facebook page when your muse is ready.
